OpenBuildings Designer Energy Simulator Training

Who is this course for?

This course is for Mechanical Services Engineers who wish to use OpenBuildings Designer’s Energy Simulator to aid in the design of building services by calculating required heating and cooling loads and their energy performance using steady state and dynamic simulation methodologies.

What will you learn?

On day one, you will learn the fundamentals of using OpenBuildings Designer Energy Simulator to create building thermal models, define design conditions and analyse performance. Buildings’ steady state load calculations, such as heat losses, heat gains (CIBSE and ASHRAE), shadow analysis, summer overheating and Building Regulations compliance are reviewed.

The optional second day of this course provides insight into Dynamic Simulation with HVAC systems and adapting/creating new HVAC systems.

Length: One/two days

Time: 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Where: Online or in-person

Pre-requisites: Delegates are not expected to have any previous experience of OpenBuildings Designer, however Mechanical services engineering knowledge is crucial.

Main topics include:

Day 1

  • Introduction to MicroStation 2D/3D basics
  • WorkSets and WorkSpaces
  • Overview of OpenBuildings Designer modelling capabilities
  • OpenBuildings Energy Simulator interface environment
