Cadventure finalist in Construction Computing Awards 2020

Cadventure is delighted to announce that once again, we have been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Channel Partner of the Year’.

This is the 15th year of Construction Computing Awards and the 15th year running that we have been chosen for this category. Last year we were proud to be awarded Runner Up in the “Channel Partner of the Year’ in the 2019 awards as we have many times before – so this year we would like to win.

The awards – affectionately known as ’The Hammers’ – are a showcase for the best in technology, tools and solutions for the effective design, construction, maintenance and modification of commercial buildings, housing and civil engineering projects. They also provide a fund raising opportunity for The Lighthouse Charity that provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury or long term illness, or simply need a helping hand.

The winners in each category are chosen by users and readers of CAD User Magazine, and voting closes on 2nd November 2020.

This year we are in good company. We would also like to congratulate Bentley Systems, Solibri and Vectorworks on reaching the finals in a number of categories.

What is New in Bluebeam Revu 20

Now that Bluebeam Revu 2020 has been released, let us take a look at seven new features included in the latest version.

Collaboration with Bluebeam Studio Sessions

Studio sessions are a great way to collaborate with your team members, particularly when working remotely. Now you can expect enhanced user and content management capability for greater flexibility and control.

  1. It is much easier to invite everyone, as now you can invite groups (e.g. engineers, architects, project managers), as well as individual members of these groups. This reduces the time taken and makes sure you always have everyone that you need attending.
  2. After logging into your sessions, not only can you see the attendees, but you can also see those who did not attend
  3. If you have a number of Studio sessions that you are invited to, you can now see a summary of all sessions you have been invited to. That helps with organisation and reduces the amount of time it takes to find the Session ID in emails. It also prevents someone missing their sessions.

Improving your task efficiency

Mark-ups in Bluebeam are considered one of its most valuable features

  1. The new version of Mark-up list has more filtering options and you can save custom filters. This help with generating reports and project management.
  2. There are more line styles available and they can be customised, which makes measurements and marking-up easier and more user-friendly
  3. There are more callout and text boxes options, which makes measurements and marking-up easier and more user-friendly
  4. The search box has been improved, meaning users can find what they are looking for more easily and quickly, and ensures they can fully utilise Bluebeam.

Cadventure prints 3D PPE

Cadventure print 3D PPE to help Covid-19 effort during lockdown

Engineers at Cadventure are using their technical expertise to produce components for face visors to protect NHS staff and care workers. The masks are being provided free to emergency responders and health care workers in the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area.

Cadventure are 3D Technology specialists who provide printers, consumables and 3D print services throughout the UK and Ireland from our Cotswold Airport based.

Paul Lewis, founder, and Technology Director commented. “We got involved at the early stages of the pandemic as our 3D printers were idle and we were keen to help. It felt good to volunteer and give something back to the local community”.

Our Ultimaker printers have been put to good work churning out visor head bands morning, noon, and night. This was all in utility room at home. The gentle sound of these printers created a soothing soundtrack to our Lockdown in Knockdown.

We first got involved at the invitation of Richard Foxley of HTA through the COVID-19_RIBA Practices workspace.

Working first with a design shared by this group, we then modified this with a more efficient design to minimize print time and maximize output. This was in collaboration with Cirencester College who finished the items with clear visors to be distributed to key workers in the local area.

We also hand-delivered (socially distance of course) to our local GP surgery. For this goodwill gesture, we received a touching phonecall from the Practice Manager expressing their gratitude that these items had been received.”

Supporting the Women in BIM Mentor Scheme

Cadventure to support the new Women in BIM Mentor Scheme

Women in BIM (WIB) has selected Elaine Lewis, Cadventure Managing Director to become a Mentor in the new WIB Mentoring Scheme: BIMentor.

This new mentoring scheme, which has been developed to support female professionals in the built environment in the UK, is an important project for WIB, aligning to its ambitions of growing a more diverse industry fuelled by innovation and technology in construction.

WIB was set up in 2012 to firstly draw attention to the disparity between the number of men and women in BIM related roles and secondly to support women in furthering their construction careers.

WIB work tirelessly to ensure there are more women showcased in the digital construction space and throughout the BIM community. WIB has an active core team in London and regional representation globally which provides support in growing the initiative.

Historically, WIB has had a significant influence on supporting and empowering women by acting as mentors to each other and to younger women looking to enter the construction industry. This action has now been formalised in a new mentoring programme and a selected group of digital construction specialists will be delivering this programme.

Commenting on her appointment to the mentoring scheme, Elaine said: “This is a very exciting WIB initiative and exactly what we should doing to help one another. I am honoured to be chosen as a mentor and strongly believe that we will all gain mutual benefit from being part of this opportunity to give back.”

WIB founder and global chair, Rebecca De Cicco added: “To have Elaine’s experience and industry insight as part of our mentor programme is amazing, I’ve worked with Elaine for many years and her professionalism together with her wealth of knowledge will be an incredible asset for WIB.

“This new scheme has been developed to unite people with a passion for technology and construction. One of the biggest obstacles to BIM adoption is the lack of in-house expertise, therefore our new scheme is a direct response to this, positioned to make a positive impact on the much-needed growth of BIM skills in our industry. No one is better placed than Elaine Lewis to help us with this.”

To find out more about the new Mentor Scheme, visit the WIB website.
