Building Information Modelling
What is BIM?
There are many opinions as to what BIM (Building Information Modelling) is, what it means and what it isn’t. It isn’t a piece of software, nor a product, or even a single process. Instead, it should be regarded as an approach that enables a building design to be better understood by all who interact with it. BIM is a way of working; it is information modelling and information management in a team environment. Bringing together all of the information about every component of a building in one place, BIM reduces the risk of errors, discrepancies, and the associated costs.
Why do I need BIM?
The UK construction industry is experiencing a BIM revolution. The future is digital and BIM is the solution for efficient design, construction and long-term facility management. With Government initiatives and a competitive drive to improve construction effectiveness in AEC, BIM is inevitable.
Using BIM data, a building can be illustrated throughout its entire lifecycle from inception and design, through occupation to demolition. For the designer, BIM enables efficiency, effective collaboration, improved design co-ordination, quicker project delivery, reduced cost and risk that drives the ability to win more business.
Which application should I use?
The first step in BIM implementation is to identify the software you want to use. With our broad portfolio of design software, we can help you choose the right application to meet your needs based on your skill sets and budget. Two of the leading system providers, Bentley Systems and Vectorworks offer a range of solutions to support you throughout the BIM process. Importantly do what is right for you. Don’t be forced to select a costly application just because everyone else is. One size does definitely not fit all!
We can advise you on and source any of the BIM enabled software solutions so please talk to one of our technical consultants about your needs.
Strategy and planning is key to success. However, for most, embarking on BIM is uncharted territory! Our consultants have first-hand experience in implementing BIM software and can help you to plan your implementation and identify the course of action that best suits you. We can guide and support you through the process by not only training you in the use of the tools but also providing on-the-project mentoring to proactively help you to overcome challenges as and when they arise. Besides getting you up and running, we can also advise in the longer-term development and management of BIM.
At Cadventure, we apply a pragmatic approach to our customer requirements, providing guidance on the right BIM strategy for you independent of your software choice. We can help you deliver your early projects and assist your users in becoming more productive in your voyage of discovery. By examining your work processes and standards, we can help you focus on gaining more from BIM as the implementation progresses. We can help you plan, realise and manage a forward path, with delivery milestones at each stage.
